Cannabis and cannabis-infused products are becoming more and more acceptable due to their wide range of medical benefits including, anxiety relief, nausea relief, and pain relief.

The two compounds that have attracted the most attention are THC and CBD. So, is there any difference between them? Well, although they are both compounds derived from cannabis, they differently affect the human body.

In this article, we will try to explore everything from the uses to the side effects, to the legality of THC and CBD. Let’s compare these compounds so that we see the major differences between them.

THC vs. CBD psychoactive effects

Hemp-derived CBD does not have any psychoactive effects. Meaning, it does not cause impairment or produce a “high” feeling when consumed. Instead, CBD Edible is usually known for helping patients with anxiety problems gain a clearer and relaxed mind.

On the contrary, marijuana-derived THC is psychoactive and is known to give a high sensation. In fact, this is one of the key differences between CBD and THC.  While marijuana and hemp are often confused, one notable difference is that marijuana can contain up to 30 percent THC and hemp contains less than 0.3 percent.

However, it is good to note, the small amounts of THC found in hemp are usually not enough to cause any form of impairment.

THC vs. CBD uses and benefits

THC and CBD share many medicinal benefits. That said; most people prefer CBD over THC because it allows them to benefit medically while still maintaining a clear mind.  Below are some differences when it comes to therapeutic applications of THC and CBD.

CBD can help with:

  • Relive nausea
  • Manage inflammation
  • Chronic pain
  • Control depression
  • Manage anxiety disorders
  • Ease the severity of epileptic seizures
  • Treatment of sleep disorders including insomnia

THC can help with:

  • Treatment of Glaucoma
  • Alleviating pain
  • Relieve nausea
  • Ease the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis
  • Ease anxiety
  • Treatment of sleep disorders including insomnia
  • Appetite

THC vs. CBD side effects

The side effects of THC and CBD are very different. CBD’s side effects are known to be more rare and mild. The majority of CBD’s side effects usually arise when you combine it with other medications. Therefore, it is advisable to consult with your physician before using CBD together with other medications.

On the other hand, the side effects associated with THC are quite more evident. Some of the common side effects include memory loss, slowed reaction time, increase heart rate, dry mouth, impaired coordination, and red eyes.

THC vs. CBD legality

The legality of CBD and THC can be confusing. A number of states require a doctor’s recommendation, some have decriminalized both THC and CBD for recreational and medical use without a doctor’s recommendation, and others have laws banning the use of any cannabis-derived product.

That said; the laws associated with CBD are quite different than laws surrounding THC. This is mostly because of the psychoactive nature of THC. CBD products, on the other hand, are permissible in all states even without a prescription.

THC vs. CBD drug testing

Some employers use drug screening tests to ensure their workers remain productive. So, would you fail a drug test if you use THC or CBD products? The answer is: it depends. For States that haven’t legalized marijuana, employer drug tests definitely screen for THC.  However, that can’t be said about CBD. This is because the CBD Edibles compound does not produce a “high” effect so most employees don’t care.

Doctors also conduct drug tests, though for medical reasons only. For instance, they would want to check if you have traces of THC or CBD in your system before putting you into other medication.

As you have noticed, there are notable differences between CBD and THC. Marijuana-derived THC has psychoactive effects, while CBD does not. Both have some common health benefits, though THC has quite more serious side effects. Furthermore, there are various legal barriers when it comes to THC. Most of the states can arrest or fine those found with marijuana or THC. Therefore, as you might have guessed, if you are in search of a product that will be beneficial to your health, with little or no shortcomings, CBD is the right choice.
